Steps to follow

  1. 01

    Charge before longer walks

Location recording, screen use, mobile data, and navigation can all contribute to battery consumption.

  2. 02

    Reduce unnecessary screen time

Lock the screen when you do not need the live map, while keeping the required background permission enabled.

  3. 03

    Avoid force-quitting the app

Closing DailyWander from the app switcher can interrupt the active recording instead of saving power safely.

  4. 04

    Check power restrictions

Low Power Mode and a critically low battery can change how often iOS allows background work.

Why usage varies

Battery use depends on walk duration, GPS conditions, screen brightness, temperature, network quality, battery health, and other apps running on the iPhone.

For an unfamiliar or longer route, preserve enough battery for communication and other essential needs. DailyWander is not an emergency-navigation tool.

If battery usage seems unusually high

Compare a short test walk with normal screen use, confirm DailyWander and iOS are current, and review the iPhone Battery section to see which apps used power during the same period.

FAQ

It should not when the required background location access is available, but restrictive settings can affect recording.

Does Low Power Mode affect route recording?
