Walking time for a 5K by age
In a meta-analysis of 41 studies (Bohannon & Andrews, 2011), healthy adults under 60 walked at an average comfortable speed of about 3.0–3.2 mph, so a 5K takes them about 58 minutes to 1 hour 2 minutes. Average speed falls with age: about 1 hour 7 minutes for women and 1 hour 2 minutes for men in their 60s, and 1 hour 14 minutes and 1 hour 6 minutes in their 70s. These speeds were measured over short walking tests, so on a longer walk treat them as a guide.
